When we were first introduced to Shaklee, we were in our late 20’s and were facing several health concerns. At that time, we had no idea that our concerns might be corrected by a few simple changes in our lifestyle. In 1980, a co-worker cared enough to tell us about Shaklee. She said that the products might help our "situation". I resisted, until finally, just to avoid the embarrassment of saying "no" one more time, I agreed to meet with this co-worker. As a former medical assistant, I had a certain mindset about vitamins and I simply did not believe that taking vitamins was necessary for good health nor did I have a clue as to how Shaklee could “help” our situation.

Skip's Story

Skip had been at work one day and lost the use of the left side of his body, his speech blurred and his vision was strange (he could only see one-half of what he looked at). Although his normal vision returned within a short period, he was taken to the hospital, concerned that he had a stroke. The final diagnosis was multiple sclerosis. Within a few months, he was given a disability retirement from the U.S. Government. He was quite ill and had very little energy and marked weakness on the left side of his body. Mostly he lay on the sofa and watched TV. That was depressing. It was a challenging season for us, and we had no idea how God was going to use this season to cause major paradigm shifts in our belief systems.

Mike's Story

Mike was sickly as a child for most of the first three years of his life but I thought this was normal. Mike had tubes in his ears twice, chronic upper respiratory illnesses which caused a yearly hospitalization, either bronchitis or pneumonia, ear infections and sinus problems almost continually. So, what's abnormal about that?

Jeff's Story

Jeff was 7 months old and had undergone a major surgery when he was 2 months old. His stomach valve (pylorus) was closed and the surgeon had to open it up. Basically, he was dying slowly – not getting enough nutrients. The story is much longer, but suffice it to say that he had the surgery, things did not go well and we were told that he probably would not be coming home. Many hours of prayer were heard by God and Jeff’s life was spared. But in a few months, he was hospitalized again with toxic microorganisms in his blood. We were leaning on God and not our own understanding.

Georgia's Story

I considered myself the “healthy” one of the family. I worked outside the home full time and tried to take care of my house & family in the few hours of the evening & weekends. I had little energy left at the end of the day when we would go to bed around 9 p.m. I frankly did not have much more energy when I woke up early in the morning to start the routine all over. I had some problems with my menstruation but that had been a continual problem since I was a teenager, so I was used to that. A little arthritis was setting in – I could not put any weight on my left wrist to lift myself off the floor. I was not overweight or otherwise sickly and I really did not have any idea that I could feel better. I simply thought that I was a normal 27 year old mother taking care of two sick sons and a sick husband.

So this was our situation when I sat down to "hear" about Shaklee. At first, it sounded too good to be true but I thought I’d try some products and see if they would help and we became Shaklee Distributors who never once regretted our decision.

Results

At first, only Skip and I started taking the supplements. Within one week we were going to bed after watching the 11 p.m. news. We felt better when we woke up, as if we had slept all night. Hmmm. We both had much more energy. Skip began feeling “alive” again. He felt like doing something around the house in the evenings & weekends. My menstrual problems cleared up. I could put weight on my wrist without pain. Allow me to break here. I want to give credit to Whom credit is due. God healed our family. He did it through natural processes as we were faithful to use Shaklee products. They work because of Shaklee's commitment to God's design for our bodies and the foods that nourish, strengthen & heal us.

We began to educate ourselves concerning the importance of the right nutrients in our bodies. A complete paradigm shift occurred within us about supplements, cleaners, toxins & the way we could earn a living! Eventually, we began giving Shaklee to the boys. Mike had the tubes removed and never suffered from another severe upper respiratory infection or ear infection again. Jeff was hospitalized one more time with double pneumonia – but we gave him Shaklee and he was home in 3 days and has not been sick enough to require hospitalization since. Skip's health returned to normal, with the full use of his body. The Birth of the Shaklee Way of Life

Our family’s results were so obvious as we shared our Shaklee story with those who wanted to hear it. Within 3 months over 80 family, friends, co-workers and associates joined our Shaklee family, experiencing their own personal results. We were encouraged began our journey as Shaklee Sales Leaders in 1981. I was able to leave my job and come home and take care of my family. In the years that followed, we traveled around the world in first-class accommodations with Shaklee and were rewarded with a lifestyle that we had never experienced. In 1982, our third son, Nathan was born. In 1983, our daughter, Christine was born and in 1984, my husband built the home you see here in North East, MD.  It's here where we built the foundation of our Shaklee family.

Severe auto accident causes traumatic brain injury

In July 1994, our son, Mike, who was 17 at the time, was involved in an auto accident that resulted in a severe traumatic brain injury, which put him in a coma for 40 days. When Mike came out of the coma, he could not walk or talk and was curling up into a fetal position. In fact, we were not given much hope and expectation other than the prospect of Mike being bedridden the rest of his life. This accident altered our entire family as you can imagine. We have a multi-faceted testimony about the changes brought about by this one day, but for here, I want to share how Shaklee contributed to the several of those changes. We gave Mike Shaklee supplements all day, every day-crushing them and putting them in his "stomach tube" all throughout his recovery (against doctor recommendation). The details are too many for here, but in June 1995, Mike walked across the stage and received his high school diploma with his classmates. We began to mend from this accident and in late 1996, Mike was hit by a car while walking down the side of the road. Both legs were broken from the knees down with 8 shattered joints altogether. He was flown to the local hospital and had rods and pins put in his legs. Another long recovery process began. It was a very stressful few years for our family. Our Shaklee business continued, even though we were not as active as we had been. Stress is a silent thief – it comes in under the radar so to speak.

Five-way bypass and carotid artery surgery - something went wrong...

One day Skip went for a visit to the doctor who discovered a blockage in his carotid artery and within 2 weeks, he underwent carotid surgery and 5–way bypass open heart surgery. He underwent 2 more emergency surgeries, almost died twice and was in the hospital for 30 days. He lost the use of his left hand and we began facing another battle. That’s a testimony for another time. Skip recovered but cannot use his left hand and we believe that will change one day.

We are excited about our future

All of our children are grown and living on their own, each one discovering what God has for them. We have ten grandchildren.  We are actively involved in our Shaklee business with grateful hearts and quite sure that each story is a journey that we needed to go on in order to help others.
